No automated UFLPA screening across thousands of components
Like many manufacturers, the compliance team relied on manual processes and supplier self-attestation to manage forced labor risk. As CBP began targeting industrial components, the team recognized manual methods could not deliver the speed or sub-tier visibility required.
API-first pipeline with batch screening of thousands of suppliers
The team automated batch screening of suppliers, processing thousands of entities per cycle through programmatic API calls — meshing the platform’s entity resolution with the division’s internal risk scoring and workflow systems.
Model implementation referenced across the broader automotive group
Suppliers screened automatically. Risks flagged programmatically. When European forced labor regulations arrive, the pipeline will be ready — and the broader group will replicate an approach that has already been proven.
The challenge
UFLPA enforcement has expanded beyond consumer goods and apparel into the industrial supply chain. Automotive manufacturers, with component supply chains spanning thousands of suppliers across Asia, face the same detention risk as any importer. For the commercial vehicle divisions of major automotive groups, the challenge is compounded by the sheer volume and complexity of the parts ecosystem: a single truck contains thousands of components sourced from suppliers in dozens of countries.
The commercial vehicle division of Europe’s largest automotive group had no automated UFLPA screening capability. Like many manufacturers, the compliance team relied on manual processes and supplier self-attestation to manage forced labor risk. As UFLPA enforcement intensified and CBP began targeting industrial components, the team recognized that manual methods could not deliver the screening volume, speed, or sub-tier visibility required.
- No automated UFLPA screening — manual processes and supplier self-attestation only
- A single commercial vehicle contains thousands of components from dozens of countries
- Manual methods could not deliver volume, speed, or sub-tier visibility required
- EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive will extend forced-labor regulations to Europe
The solution
The division built an API-first screening pipeline, integrating entity resolution and supply chain mapping directly into its procurement and compliance workflows. Rather than screening entities through a manual interface, the team automated batch screening of suppliers, processing thousands of entities per cycle through programmatic API calls.
The technical implementation was intensive. The original per-entity pricing model could not accommodate the screening volume; the team worked with Sayari to restructure pricing around the division’s actual usage patterns. The API integration required custom engineering to mesh entity resolution output with the division’s internal risk scoring and workflow systems.
The results
Building for the Future
The compliance team that built a screening pipeline from scratch now operates one of the most technically sophisticated UFLPA compliance programs in the automotive industry. Suppliers are screened automatically. Risks are flagged programmatically. When European forced labor regulations arrive, the division’s pipeline will be ready. The broader automotive group will not need to build from zero — they will replicate an approach that has already been proven.
